Few children, great opportunities (Sue Price & Ruth Alliston, BRF) RRP £8.99
An intoduction designed to help you think through how to prepare sessions when you don't know the number and ages of children, if any, that will be present on a Sunday.
12 sessions looking at the 12 characteristics of God, that can be used in any order and adjusted as you go if you have older or younger children than you expected. The material seeks to engage head, heart and hands by giving several ways to tell a Bible story and offering a variety of activities that help children engage with the story. It includes storybook activities to provide continuity, cohesion and recall and a family follow-up sheet with ideas to encourage families to continue to explore the topic at home together.
Sue says: I'm biased on this one as I'm a co-author! It was written out of the experience in my own church when we couldn't find appropriate material for a very small group of children ranging from toddlers to teens who may or may not be present on any given Sunday.

Mosaic contains Bible-based resources especially designed for small groups of children with a wide age range based on the Scripture Union Light materials. It is ideal for children’s workers in small rural churches, small urban churches and new church plants - or any church with small numbers of children, few leaders, and limited space or resources! The core session material is aimed at 3-14s with some activity ideas for children at the younger and older ends.
Sue says: I think this material gives a good starting point if you have children aged 5-11 in one group. Incorporating younger and older children would require more planning.

Many churches with small congregations and even smaller numbers of children attending on a Sunday morning, struggle with the traditional model of Sunday school. This book and the one below set out to show that, with a bit of lateral and creative thinking, even in a small church children's work can become vibrant and successful.
Both contain monthly two-hour sessions. The programmes are introduced with helpful hints on how to run an effective children's programme outside of Sunday worship. Each programme offers material for a range of practical activities including games, art and craft, drama, cookery and Bible teaching, plus ideas for an act of worship following a workshop session. Each session includes suggestions for age related programmes for 3-8s and 7-12s.
Through the Year with Jesus! (Eleanor Zuercher, Barnabas) RRP £9.99
