Parentplay

A 7-week parenting course for parents of children under 5

The course aims to strengthen family bonds and promote positive family relationships.

• Parentplay helps parents and children to feel valued and respected.
• Parentplay builds on parents' strengths as they learn new skills together by sharing ideas and experiences, enabling them to be positive role models for their children.
• Parentplay encourages parents and children to have fun together, developing a deeper bond, through a range of stimulating messy-play activities.
• Parentplay facilitates parents in building friendships and supporting each other, as a key to being actively involved in community life and all the benefits that this brings.

The parentplay manual comes with a CD-Rom in the back and they contain all the materials and facilitators' notes necessary to run the course.

It is assumed that this will be a daytime course. Each of the seven sessions should last approximately two hours. The initial hour and a half will require a creche to be provided for the children whilst the parents have a time of discussion. The final half hour is a messy-play time involving parents and children.

• I'm all ears (the benefits of being a good listener)
• It's more than words (strategies on improving communication)
• Sharing play (inspiring parents to enjoy sharing play with their children)
• Balancing with boundaries (the importance of boundaries and strategies for managing misbehaviour)
• Remember, remember! (creating positive childhood memories)
