Midweek clubs

If you are running a midweek club for children you need to be clear about its parameters - and be sure that everyone (all the club leaders and helpers, your church leadership, parents and children) knows and accepts them.

What is the style of the club? Do most of the activities relate to Bible/christian teaching or are they mostly 'secular'? This section relates to clubs which have at least some Bible/christian teaching. For other styles check out the children's ministry community section.

Who is the club for? Is it mainly for children who already come to church plus their friends or are you aiming to reach the children that the church doesn't already connect with? This will impact how you advertise the group.

What is the age range? You will almost certainly be pushed to extend the boundaries you set - children who enjoy the group may not want to leave if there isn't another group for them to join, parents will ask you to take younger children. Stretching the age range will change the group dynamics and shouldn't happen without thought and planning.

Session materials for midweek clubs - resources that have been written with midweek evangelistic or discipleship groups in mind.

One-off events - resources that can be used as part of a regular group or staged as one-off events in church or schools.

Activity ideas - games, stories, prayers and other activities that can supplement your chosen materials or help you prepare your own sessions.

Under 5s midweek events

Organisations - affiliation will help with the provision of programmes and resouces

The Church Lads’ and Church Girls’ Brigade

The Anglican Church’s own uniformed youth organisation: welcoming children and young people of all faiths and none (ages 5-21).

Young people and children enjoy fun, faith, fellowship and, through The Brigade, learn to be better equipped to cope with the demands that society places upon them. They are encouraged to explore their spirituality and respond to the Christian faith, and to develop their moral values and a respect for the environment.
