Under 5s

The foundations for a life-long faith in Jesus that can be formed in the heads and hearts of young children are beyond measure and every church should seek to invest as much energy and resources into this area of ministry as any other.

At the Children's Ministy Conference in January 2009 we asked delegates to share their top tips for working with under 5s and their carers.

The top five tips were:

• Use Christmas as an opportunity – Treats & Traditions evening for parents – Christmas lunch for children and carers – Christmas service with puppets.
• Keep it simple – Bible stories, songs (repetitive, simple actions), simple crafts.
• Have fun - be prepared to jump around and play with the children.
• Invite a ‘church man’ to help other male visitors feel comfortable and build relationships with them.
• Never try and do anything in your own strength. Invite God and watch what he can do!!
