Y-Zone
This lively resource is designed with 9s-13+ in mind, and has been written in a way that engages their imaginations.
Traditionally many churches make the divide between children’s groups and youth groups at the age of 11. If this is your choice, Y-Zone can be used with both the oldest of your children’s groups and the youngest of your youth group. There are different activity materials for the 9s-11+ and the 11s-13+ young people and the Leader’s Guide will point to you ideas that are more suitable for the older or younger age groups.
Many churches struggle to keep their 10-year-olds who think they have become ‘too old for Sunday school’. Having a new style of material to introduce for that age group can be an advantage.
To use Y-Zone you will need a set of activity materials for each young person, a Leader’s Guide and the CD Resource Pack.
The Y-Zone Green activity sheets (one set per young person in the 9s-11+ age group) comprise four pages per session and are in full colour. They have puzzles, games, true/false quizzes, multiple choices, mazes and all sorts of activities to help communicate the truth of the Bible to young people. Each one also has a Check It Out page, providing a reminder of the memory verse, further Bible readings, prayer guide and other elements to assist daily devotions that follow-up the session focus through the week.
Y-Zone Red magazines (one magazine set per young person in the 11s-13+ age group). Each magazine relates to a theme (so two magazines in the set for a twelve-sessions unit and one magazine for a five-sessions unit). They contain many of the same puzzles, devotional materials, posters and other items as Y-Zone Green, but these magazines are presented in a more sophisticated format and they include the Bible background for each session that is provided in the Leader’s Guides. Young teens will appreciate that they are not being given weekly activity sheets like the younger age groups, but a quality 16-page magazine every five or six weeks.
Please note that neither Y-Zone Green activity sheets nor Y-Zone Red magazines show the suggested age range of the young people who should receive them. This gives you the flexibility to give the materials to young people outside the range.
The Y-Zone Leader’s Guide provides all you’ll need to prepare sessions that are packed with relevant Bible truth, fun activities, challenges, prayer and worship ideas, links to the activity sheets and lots more. The article on session structure gives more information and will help your planning.
The CD Resource Pack which accompanies the sessions has songs and sometimes stories, sketches, sound quizzes and other items on the audio CD. The CD-Rom has the words of the songs and other helpful elements, including every memory verse, that can be printed or projected. It also contains photocopiable letters to parents and the pastor, keeping them in touch with what you are teaching and all-age service outlines that summarise each theme and give the young people an opportunity to be involved.
Y-Zone has a four-year cycle.
The Y-Zone material for the five-sessions holiday season is incorporated in the KidZone Leader’s Guide, recognising that Holiday Clubs are generally run for the under 11s but often involve the young teens as junior leaders.
