Families and friends / Obedience to God - the stories of Hannah, Jehosophat, Ezra, Esther, Daniel and Joseph
Sessions 1-6: Families and friends
We are all members of a family, and all of us have a circle of friends. But sometimes faith can conflict with the desires and plans of family and friends. These six sessions look at the experiences of Hannah, the battle Jehosophat didn’t have to fight, rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem, Ezra’s return from exile, and the adventures of Esther.
Session 1: Hannah & her son (1 Samuel 1&2) Session 2: The war that wasn't (2 Chronicles 20) Session 3: The exilish patient (Ezra 1-6) Session 4: Putting sin in the bin
(Ezra 8 & 9) Session 5: Pretty Woman (Esther 1-4) Session 6: The King & I (Esther 5-8)
Sessions 7-12: Obedience to God
Old testament heroes of the faith have gone before us, learning about the grace of God as they obey his commands. Daniel and Jonah face conflict in hostile settings (with different reactions) but ultimately find that ‘to obey is better than sacrifice’ (1 Samuel 15:22). Young people can learn vital lessons from these exciting stories.
Session 7: Naughty but nice! (Daniel 1) Session 8: The fire place
(Daniel 3) Session 9: Into the den
(Daniel 6) Session 10: Straight talk
(Ezra 7:6 - 28) Session 11: The fish chop
(Jonah 1 & 2) Session 12: Quality seconds (Jonah 3 & 4)
