Season Themes: What Jesus can do – Gospel stories Christians together – Bible passages that explore issues of Christian life
Sessions 1-6: What Jesus can do Our main motive in providing teaching to children and young people is to help them have an encounter with the living Jesus Christ. Here are the stories of several people who met him: Nicodemus, the woman at the well, Zacchaeus. They had to make up their minds about him – he doesn’t leave us the luxury of being able to ‘sit on the fence’. Was Nicodemus going to become a follower, and be prepared to do his following openly? Was Zacchaeus going to repent of his very public sin? These sessions help young people meet the real Christ, face up to some of the most important issues of life, death and beyond, and examine their response to him too.
Session 1: Received with thanks (John 3:1-8, 16-21, 36) Session 2: Most excellent news (John 4:3-42) Session 3: Through the roof (Mark 2:1-12) Session 4: Branching out! (Luke 19:1-10) Session 5: Love your enemies (Luke 9:51-58; Matthew 5:38-39) Session 6: Gonna lay down my burden (John 4:43-54)
Sessions 7-12: Christians together God has planned that Christians should work with one another in a spirit of unity, co-operation and submission to leadership. Young people need to understand that they can be an important part of the exciting, life-changing army that God has placed on the earth. Church isn’t just hymns, sermons and notices. Church is about unity, love, fellowship, working together, forgiveness and worship, and so these sessions explore these issues. How can we resolve conflict? What about the type of music we prefer? How do young people fit in? In what ways are we like athletes, or farmers, as we work together to fulfil our goals?
Session 7: Power from on high (Acts 1:12-14; 2:1-47) Session 8: Follow your leader! (Acts 16:1-3; 17:13-15; 2 Timothy 2:1-7) Session 9: Leaders worth honouring (Hebrews 13:7, 17-21) Session 10: Working together (3 John) Session 11: Forgive one another (Philemon) Session 12: We will sing praises! (Psalm 103)
