Season Themes: Meeting with Jesus – Gospel stories God’s guidance for living – Exodus 20 (the Ten Commandments)
Sessions 1-6: Meeting with Jesus Young people may become excited if they were to meet pop stars, sports heroes of other celebrities simply famous for being famous… But what if they were to meet with the Saviour of the world? Our prayer is that young people encounter the Lord Jesus. These sessions look at Christ’s attitude to (among others) the importance of children, spiritual blindness, exercising faith and how we handle our money. In hearing his words we become wise; in encountering him we become alive.
Session 1: Children (Matthew 18:1-6) Session 2: Light (Mark 8:22-26) Session 3: Cash (Mark 10:17-31) Session 4: Priorities (Luke 10:38-42) Session 5: Devotion (John 12:1-11) Session 6: Faith (Luke 7:1-10)
Sessions 7-12: God’s guidance for living These sessions deny the claim that the Ten Commandments are old-fashioned, out-of-date, restrictive and authoritarian. Once we look carefully at the loving God who set boundaries on the way we relate to him and to one another, providing a framework of respect, safety and good social conduct, we can see the eternal wisdom of our heavenly Father. This guidance (NB not guidelines or suggestions, but commandments) is for our good, establishing perimeters on our behaviour and attitudes which will help us in our relationship with God and our neighbour.
Session 7: No other gods (Exodus 20:1-7) Session 8: Keep it holy (Exodus 20:8-11) Session 9: Don’t murder or steal (Exodus 20:13, 15) Session 10: In praise of parents (Exodus 20:12) Session 11: Not yours? Leave it! (Exodus 20:14, 17) Session 12: Tell the truth (Exodus 20:16)
